Barclays Posts 4.8 Per Cent Rise In 1993 Foreign Exchange Income

Barclays Bank reported 1993 foreign exchange income last week of £302 million, up 4.8 per cent from the 1992 figure of £288 million. Overall, the bank posted dealing income of £781 million, a 59 per cent rise over 1992.

According to Barclays officials, some 41 per cent of this income came from dealing on behalf of its banking division customers, who are chiefly small- and medium-sized corporations and individuals. John Spencer, chief executive of the Barclays de Zoete Wedd (BZW) markets division
