Manila plays host to forex industry

Kicking off the day's plenary session will be Michael Powell, head of global markets at HSBC, with a talk entitled 'From Queen's Road to Canary Wharf'. This will be followed by a panel discussing rationalising credit rating agencies moderated by Cezar Consing, TRG Management Hong Kong. Panelists will include Stephen Taran, managing director, Citigroup Global Markets, Stephen Long from JP Morgan, James McCormack, senior director and head of Asian sovereign ratings, Fitch Ratings, and Max Schieler, head of country risk analysis at UBS.

Andreas Gaus, head of the ACI International Operations Working Group, will give a briefing on a new operations certificate. Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, chairman of the Bank of the Philippine Islands, will share a few thoughts before lunch, which is being sponsored by the bank.

Starting off the afternoon session is Margarita Holmes, who will give a keynote speech. A panel on interest rates post-Greenspan will follow, looking at the implications on global interest rates and capital markets.

The panel will be moderated by Lito Camacho, vice-chairman for non-Japan Asia, investment banking, Credit Suisse, and will include Michael Spencer, chief economist for Asia/head of global markets research at Deutsche Bank, Timothy Teo, director, Asia-Pacific economic and market analysis, Citigroup, and Andrew Freris, chief economist, head of fixed-income research, Asia-Pacific, at BNP Paribas.

Godfried de Vidts, president, ACI the Financial Market Association, will lead a general assembly ahead of an exhibit viewing. Dinner will follow at Fiesta Filipina at Harbor Garden Tent, Hotel Philippine Plaza, sponsored by HSBC.
