April fall: all reporting trading venues saw FX spot volumes slide by double digits

Spot foreign exchange volumes on electronic communication networks fell to multi-year lows in April, as volatility reached levels not seen since 2014 and holiday periods affected certain markets.

“Our impression is that the fall in volumes is due to low market volatility, and some holiday related slowness and activity, including Easter, and the first part of a long holiday in Japan and elsewhere in Asia,” says Alan Schwarz, chief executive of liquidity aggregator FXSpotStream.
