LMAX may seek registration in Ireland in the event of a hard Brexit

The platform believes other firms will follow suit as they seek to maintain access to the single market

Foreign exchange platform LMAX Exchange has said it will seek registration in Ireland if the UK government does not maintain the passporting rights to the European Union's single market that are currently enjoyed by UK-based firms.

"It is clear our European counterparts are opportunistically targeting the current UK capital markets franchise and it is vital we proactively address the regulatory passport issue immediately," says David Mercer, chief executive of LMAX Exchange.
