Systematic funds are likely to continue to struggle, despite an improving outlook for the broader industry, says Alessio de Longis, portfolio manager at the Oppenheimer Currency Opportunities Fund in New York.

"Rate increases in the US and UK are not likely until at least the first quarter of next year. Improved rate differentials between G-10 economies should, in theory, help systematic traders, as that is what many of their trading models are based on," he says. "However, the rate increases
