Systematic strategies will bounce back, say managers

The recent bankruptcy of FX Concepts, once a leading currency hedge fund, could easily be seen as a nail in the coffin for model-driven, systematic trading strategies. With interest rates having been at record lows for several years and the carry trade – once a staple of the systematic strategy – now far less profitable than it was, the decline of FX Concepts appears to be a sign of the times. But some currency managers believe systematic strategies are about to make a comeback.
