The appointment earlier this year of Virginie Queval, a foreign exchange options trader with 16 years of experience at BNP Paribas and Commerzbank, to head up FX trading at Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) in London is a clear sign of the firm's strategy to move FX away from safety-first hedging and towards alpha generation, involving derivatives as well as spot.

Foreign exchange trading has not traditionally been one of LGIM's core investment products since the firm was established
