A looming concern for all markets is the potential for a pandemic stemming from the avian flu outbreak across many countries in Asia, more recently in Indonesia. The World Health Organisation (WHO) fears the H5N1 strain will mutate, acquiring genes from the human influenza that will enable it to spread from human to human and potentially lead to the deaths of millions in a global pandemic.
