‘Going but not yet gone’ characterises the last year of UK prime minister Tony Blair’s custody of the UK. Before the May 2005 election, after a health scare and some stuttering polls, he was advised to state that he would not fight a fourth campaign. The statement was deemed necessary at the time, but is now blamed for many of his problems, as it undermined his authority within the Labour party and government.
