Downward move for greenback is inevitable, says EPI's Bernstein

This was the view of Jared Bernstein, senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute in Washington, DC, speaking at a session entitled 'US international competitiveness and the implications for currency values'.

"We have not seen the expected dollar devaluation," Bernstein said. "We have actually seen the dollar rise and fail to come even close to a level that would allow trade balance to stabilise or contract.

He pointed to the fact that the dollar has fallen against currencies of countries
