Paribas Profits Slip 15 Percent But FX Gains Up In First Half

Compagnie Financiere de Paribas has announced first half net income of Ffr1.1 billion, down 15 percent from the same period in 1991. The drop was due to an increase in loan-loss provisions at the Compagnie Bancaire and Credit du Nord subsidiaries, while the flagship Banque Paribas saw a drop in provisions.

Expenses were also up seven percent, says the company, due to investment made at Banque Paribas in developing capital markets and asset management activities. Over the past two years, Paribas
