Athene dominates FX forwards market for US life insurers
Athene held $14.4 billion in foreign exchange forwards notional at the end of 2022, which translates to 26% of the $56.2 billion market for US life insurers. That was up from the $9.1 billion Athene had in its book in Q1 2022. US life insurers generally appear to use G10 currency pairs in their transactions, with only 1% of trade volume conducted in non-G10 currencies.
