Merrill Lynch has elected to take Philadelphia-based FNX's foreign exchange options system to support its worldwide currency options operations, say industry sources. The system is understood to have gone live at its London and New York desks with a further roll-out to Singapore planned. The application is being installed on Sun Microsystems hardware running Sun's Solaris operating system, say sources.

However, they say, the FNX lease is only a temporary solution for Merrill, which eventually
