Basel settlement risk guidance puts new demands on forex market

A new set of supervisory guidance on the management of foreign exchange settlement risk published at the end of last week puts a renewed onus on regulators and banks to tighten up the management and mitigation of a number of different risks associated with the settlement of FX trades.

The 36-page consultative document, which was published by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision on August 17, centres on seven key guidelines, covering governance, principal risk, replacement cost risk
