Greece braces for snap election in September

Greece is to hold a snap election in September, following prime minister Alexis Tsipras' resignation on Thursday (August 20), in an attempt to consolidate his power after his bailout agreement with the rest of the eurozone in July.

In a move that observers say resembles a calculated gamble, the election will likely be a referendum on Tsipras himself, given the lack of stronger candidates to challenge him for the role.
