French push for ECB reform

The French Council of Economic Advisors’ report, prepared by economists Patrick Artus and Charles Wyplosz and published in October, proposes a number of changes to make the ECB’s decision-making process less cumbersome. It highlights the long-term view that the ECB’s board, currently comprising the 12 central bank chiefs from all the eurozone countries, will become unwieldy following enlargement and the eventual addition of 10 further countries in 2004. Among the proposals is a rotation system
