Hossein Zaimi, head of foreign exchange and metals for Asia-Pacific in Hong Kong, said the biggest challenge over the past year has been the need to offer clients liquidity in markets that were not. “We’ve had to run larger risks than in the past to satisfy the demand for liquidity from our clients,” he said.

Increased competition for market share resulting from the region’s recovery has led dealers such as Citi, Société Générale, Credit Suisse and Commerzbank to boost their onshore capabilities
