US dollar: the only way is up
The value of the US dollar in 2013 was driven to a large extent by the machinations of the US Federal Reserve as it contemplates scaling back its quantitative easing (QE) programme – a process that continues as the Federal Open Market Committee concludes its final meeting of the year today. Most now expect tapering to begin sometime in the first quarter, which in turn will drive the US dollar upwards.
