The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has lengthened the comment period on a supplemental proposal for Regulation Automated Trading (RegAT) – a controversial suggestion aimed at tougher scrutiny of algorithmic trading.

The comment period has been extended to May 1, as the CFTC said it "recognises the broad range of topics addressed in the supplemental proposal and the number of questions within it".

The CFTC approved a supplemental proposal on November 4, 2016, to amend the RegAT
