CFTC wary of Fed's merger proposal

CFTC acting chairman Walt Lukken said that, while the creation of a unified regulator could bring efficiencies, significant changes to the scale, goals and model of the CFTC risked placing its effectiveness in jeopardy.

"Unless securities laws are first rationalised with those governing futures markets, a merger might, ironically, make the US futures industry less competitive," said Lukken.
