All that glisters: precious metal volumes surge on FX venues

Since the earliest days of civilisation, humans have traded gold, silver and other precious metals. But only in recent times have these age-old assets established themselves on electronic trading platforms that normally play host to foreign exchange.

Gold and silver spot trading on the FX platforms has soared this year, largely driven by a jump in prices for the metals. EBS Market reported a 58% increase in metals volumes in 2025 versus last year, with October a record month. Total combined
