Nigerian central bank will test prototype CBDC
“eNaira” will be tested in four cities, reaching a combined population of nearly 15 million
Nigeria’s central bank will begin trials of a prototype central bank digital currency (CBDC) on October 1.
The Central Bank of Nigeria announced on August 30 that it would work on the “eNaira” with Bitt, a payments technology firm based in Barbados. Bitt will use its “digital currency management system”, which it is also using for the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank’s prototype CBDC.
On September 28 the CBN went live with a website dedicated to the eNaira. The website offers an online process
