CME Group has appointed William Knottenbelt as head of European business operations, responsible for developing customer relationships, core business growth and new business opportunities across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Emea).

Knottenbelt joins from Royal Bank of Scotland, where he was global head of futures between 2000 and 2010, and most recently global head of central counterparty clearing. In his new role, he will be based in London and report to Bryan Durkin, chief operating officer and managing director for products and services. He will start in mid-November.

Meanwhile, Robert Ray, London-based managing director for international products and services, is to transition to a new role managing key strategic initiatives in Europe and South America, also reporting to Durkin.

"CME Group's business continues to grow during European and Asian trading hours, and we believe the best way to serve these clients is to develop regional products through a significant presence in Emea. We are extremely pleased that both William and Bob will assist us in these efforts," says Durkin.
