Banks join forces for stablecoin builds

Three regional consortia gain traction; SG and Standard Chartered stay on solo track

Banks are accelerating plans to issue stablecoins for instantaneous, round-the-clock settlement, with many ditching in-house builds in favour of industry consortia to reduce fragmentation and broaden distribution in the fast-growing market.

In October 2025, a consortium of nine bank heavyweights comprising Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, BNP Paribas, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, MUFG Bank, Santander, TD Bank and UBS confirmed plans to develop stablecoins focused on G7 currencies.
