CBDCs provide ‘clean slate’ for cross-border payments, says report

International bodies urge central banks to bolster CBDC co-operation

Central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) can enhance the efficiency of cross-border payments, but only if central banks work together, according to a joint report presented to the G20.

Together, the International Monetary Fund, World Bank, Bank for International Settlements’ Innovation Hubs, and the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures have analysed what is needed to facilitate international CBDC payments.
