Robert Ray, managing director and chief executive at CME Europe, has died at the age of 60, after a short illness.

Ray, who was working on the launch of CME Europe before his death, had been at CME since 2007 when CME merged with the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT).

He worked as senior vice-president, business development, at CBOT from 2003 until the firm's merger, having joined the company a year previously as vice-president, equity business development.
