HSBC has appointed Chris Smith, formerly of Deutsche Bank, as its new head of foreign exchange hedge fund sales, the bank has confirmed.

Smith will be based in London and starts on November 5. He will report to Robbert Sijbrandij and Claude Goulet, co-heads of FX and commodities institutional sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The appointment fills a gap at HSBC after Michael Spencer, former head of hedge fund sales, resigned in late April to join JP Morgan. Spencer had been with HSBC
