FX fact: FX reserves


Almost every country holds foreign exchange reserves for various purposes, but a look at the distribution of these holdings yields some unusual results.

By far the largest hoarder of reserves is Japan with a huge $350 billion stash. The next largest player -- China -- by comparison holds $175 billion.

Moving lower down the list, some surprise entries are found. Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Mexico and India all hold larger FX reserve pools than the UK -- and the US does not even figure in the global
