BarCap hires first FX dealer for Boston

Suzanne Brant

joined Barclays Capital last week, managing FX sales for Boston. Brant is the first dedicated FX dealer for the new institutional office serving the New England region (FX Week, April 26). She is currently based in New York but will move to Boston when the bank’s new office in the city is completed.

Brant, who reports to Eric Price, head of foreign exchange distribution in New York, was previously at FleetBoston Financial in Boston, where she covered sales to asset managers and insurance companies.

State Street hires for ops management

State Street has hired Robert Sisti in Boston as global head of operations for State Street Global Markets, the investment research and trading arm of State Street.

Sisti is responsible for the operational infrastructure supporting FX, equity, fixed income and money market trading. He reports to Stanley Shelton, Boston-based head of State Street Global Markets.

Sisti previously worked at S3 Asset Management, a hedge fund services aggregator in New York.

Commerzbank names head of rates trading

Commerzbank has appointed Hui-Sun Kim as global head of interest rate trading in London after its latest management restructure.

Kim was previously head of interest rate options trading, reporting to Ali Satrap, whose role changed from head of interest rates and foreign exchange to head of global markets in March.

Nozar Hussein in London is Kim’s counterpart for FX trading. He also reports to Satrap.

Ex-RepNat FX chief leaves HSBC

Rick Gomes

, head of e-commerce, and former head of North American FX at HSBC in New York, left the bank earlier this month.

He had joined HSBC with Republic National Bank of New York, which HSBC bought in December 1999, and where Gomes also managed North American FX. He became head of e-commerce in March 2001.

Debra Large

has transferred from Hong Kong to replace Gomes as head of e-business for North America. She previously managed e-commerce initiatives for the bank, both regionally and globally.

RBS hires prop trader in Tokyo

Luke Waddington

has joined Royal Bank of Scotland in Tokyo as a proprietary FX trader, reporting to Kosuke Hanao, head of FX trading and sales in Japan and Chris de la Hoyde, Hong Kong-based head of FX Asia-Pacific.

Waddington, who joins from HSBC, will focus on Asian currencies and support the international and domestic sales teams with real-time trading information and strategies, a bank spokesperson said.

Waddington’s hire follows the departures of Allan Bedwick, prop and rates trading head, and Harry Mackenzie, a senior trader, from RBS in Tokyo, who left for Merrill Lynch.

Merrill adds again for new prop desk in Tokyo

Merrill Lynch has hired Fred Lim for its newly created FX prop trading desk in Tokyo. Lim joins the desk, which the bank has dubbed the principal strategies group, from Lehman Brothers in Tokyo, where he was Asian relative-value strategist.

Lim reports to Allan Bedwick, managing director of the desk, and its director Harry Mackenzie. Both Bedwick and Mackenzie recently joined Merrill from Royal Bank of Scotland in Tokyo (FX Week, April 19).
