US Banks' Report Mixed First Half Results But Period Noted More For Strategic Changes

The major US banks reporting first half foreign exchange trading results are showing mixed returns, but the second quarter of 1996 may be noted more for the changes that have occurred at those banks than it is for the earnings.

However, Citibank remains at the top of the list, with earnings more than double that of its nearest competitor, the new Chase Manhattan, which is reporting results for the first time as an officially merged entity.
