Creditanstalt Doubles Trading Gains In Provisional Figures

Creditanstalt Bankverein, one of Austria's three biggest banks, has started the year aggressively by posting record provisional profits which owe a great deal to improved foreign exchange gains, sources say.

Provisional operating profits were Sch5.3 billion for 1993, a rise of more than 65 percent on the Sch3.4 billion posted in 1992. Wolfgang Lichtl, head of treasury at Creditanstalt, says the results were the "best the bank has ever posted," pointing to a "clear trend reversal after difficult
