But now banks such as Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers are leading the way in the recruitment and retention of women and ethnic minorities due to ‘diversity programmes’ designed to attract under-represented sectors of the population. Diversity programmes cover gender, race and disability -- but in practice target the more visible issue of women in banking. And the statistics back up anecdotal evidence that diversity is now being promoted in the biggest investment banks as it never has been
