Sterling is likely to suffer an immediate fall of 3–5% against other major currencies if Scotland votes for independence on September 18, according to Kit Juckes, global head of currency research at Societe Generale in London.

The likelihood of a Yes vote increased this week, with a September 1 YouGov poll showing a rapidly diminishing lead for the No campaign, falling from more than 20 points to just six points in the past few weeks. "The game is on," says Juckes. "Unless we get opinion polls
