ADB economist moots idea of common currency in Asia

Lei Lei Song, a principal economist at the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) office of regional integration, said on July 23 that "in the very, very long run, there might be a common currency [in Asia]".

He emphasised, however, that the eurozone crisis had underscored the importance of meeting pre-requisite conditions. "Asia is far from satisfying those pre-conditions," he said.
