Hong Kong will not abandon dollar peg: HKMA’s Chan

Norman Chan, the chief executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), on Thursday said the central bank would not change its exchange rate regime despite repeated calls from analysts to break its peg to the US dollar.

"There are views that the risk of asset price bubbles in Hong Kong is mainly caused by the linked exchange rate system and that the Hong Kong dollar should not [be pegged] to the US dollar any more. Some have further suggested that the Hong Kong dollar should be linked with
