CME reports record volumes

CHICAGO – On February 4 the CME Group hit a record for trading in its EUR/USD options contracts, with a total notional value of $10.2 billion traded based on 59,491 contracts. This record boosted overall foreign exchange options volume to 86,521 contracts traded, with a total notional value of $13.2 billion – the highest in a decade.
 
Similarly, Icap said EBS Spot recorded the highest volumes for a single day since October 2008 on the day, with daily trading volume of $221.2 billion (FX Week, February 8).

Meanwhile, last Friday (February 12), Hotspot FX reported average daily notional dollar value traded in January at $30.8 billion. This is up approximately 24.1% from $24.9 billion in December 2009, and 131.5% from $13.3 billion in January 2009.
