Volatility will not deter central banks

FX Week Europe panellists think central banks may see return of volatility as healthy mechanism that causes investors to recalibrate expectations

Federal Reserve: chairman says the agency is close to neutral interest rates

The volatility creeping back into markets will not deter the Federal Reserve from raising interest rates and normalising its monetary policies, according to panellists at the 17th annual FX Week Europe conference in London.

Instead, they believe the US central bank will maintain its current rate-hiking pace. The Fed has increased rates three times this year and is on track for a fourth in December.

“It’s onward and upward,” said James Ashley, head of international market strategy at Goldman
