Redback down: latest figures show the value of renminbi payments fell since August

The Canadian dollar overtook the renminbi in September as the fifth most used currency for international payments, with a share of 1.86%, amid a slowdown of the Chinese currency’s path to internationalisation, reports payments infrastructure company Swift.

The latest figures show the value of renminbi payments fell to 1.85% from the 1.94% it registered in August – a small enough change to allow the Canadian dollar to overtake it.

The US dollar remains steady at the top of the list, with 39.79%
