CME Debates Extending Floor Trading Hours Many Opposed, But Opportunity Costs Mount

Factions within the Chicago Mercantile Exchange are talking about extending trading hours, a move that the exchange has opposed ever since it unveiled plans to launch its Globex electronic order matching system in 1987.

One exchange official says "it would be really nice if we could be open in the early morning hours," to coincide with the European trading day, "and there are rumours to the effect that something could happen."
