Amsterdam-based Flow Traders expands FX activities to more platforms

Joshua Mathew is joining Flow Traders as global head of FX trading, as part of the non-bank market-maker’s push to hire additional expertise for its foreign exchange business, FX Week has learned.

Mathew is relocating to Amsterdam for his new role, which he will start at the end of September, reporting to chief trading officer Folkert Joling.

He worked at Barclays for 10 years, starting as a FX trader and structurer in 2009. Most recently, he was an e-trader at director level for its FX electronic trading platform, BarxFX.

A source with knowledge of the matter says the non-bank liquidity provider is set on expanding its FX franchise as banks retrench further from principal trading. The firm is now covering more platforms, taking more risk on to its books and experiencing more daily volumes.

Flow Traders is not believed to have been among the trading houses offloaded by Citi from its prime brokerage services, the source said.

Flow Traders confirmed the appointment. Barclays declined to comment.
